Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop appropriate curriculum Guideline in nursing. Most of the nursing departments were developing or already have developed curriculum that meets the nursing philosophy and considers the expected nurse competencies. Nursing curriculum recommended by Korean Accreditation Board of Nursing. The guideline was built based on professional standards and guideline, minimum requirements and program outcome matched up to WHO, ICN(International Council of Nurses), AACN(American Association College of Nursing) and NLN(National League for Nursing) Globally. Junior college authorities asked the department of Nursing to develop NCS-based curriculum recommended by the Ministry of Education since 2014. It was very difficult for nursing department in Junior college to follow curriculum guideline developed from other philosophy and academic background.

Methods : A lot of materials on nursing curriculum development were reviewed and discussions among experts and public hearings were conducted. The development period was from July 10, 2015 to November 30, 2017. Finally a lot of consensus was reached at last public hearing in which professors from nursing colleges participated, and the researchers arranged this.

Results : Program outcomes based curriculum guidelines have been developed to meet the standards and steps required by the NCS curriculum.

Conclusion : The newly developed Nursing Curriculum Guidelines will guide the development of educational content and standards based on the Nursing professional roles and competencies required of nurses.
